Bedding Bed Sheet Set:

A Bed Sheet is defined as a large swatch of fabric that is cut and stitched to fit over a mattress. Bed sheets can be purchased in a variety of fabrics from cotton to linen to silk to flannel. They will have a sewed seam around the entirety of the fabric to create an edge and the top piece of the bed sheet (which goes towards the headboard) generally has an overlap of material to create a border.

Bed sheets can be flat or fitted, with each one serving a different purpose on the mattress. A flat sheet lays directly on top of the mattress and is usually tucked in on the end of the bed. A fitted sheet will have elastic stitched into the seam around the entire piece of fabric and fits down over the corners of the mattress and tucks underneath it. It will have a tag or some other indicator of what end is the bottom end of the fitted sheet.

Using a set of bed sheets, whether you use them on a regular nightly basis or you use them when someone is ill or other special circumstances, can protect your mattress from the signs of daily wear and tear. A set of bed sheets can prevent stains on the mattress, as it forms another barrier that liquids, fluids, etc. would have to pass through before soaking into the mattress. Some people might only use a set of bed sheets when they are ill, to provide a secondary barrier between their mattress and themselves.

A set of bed sheets can also protect the mattress by preventing rips and tears that can occur during nightly use. If you sleep directly on top of your mattress, then it is possible to wear thin the fabric that covers the intricate system of coils or air pockets. Once this wears thin, it only takes a small amount of pressure to rip through the fabric.
